OpenVidu 3.5.0: ARM and Google Cloud Platform support
OpenVidu 3.5.0 is out, and as co-founders of the project we're glad to share what's new. Full details are in the release notes; the highlights:
- ARM support. OpenVidu can now be deployed on ARM-based systems; the installer detects the architecture automatically and sets up the right services, no manual configuration needed. That opens up a broader, often cheaper, range of deployment targets.
- Expanded Google Cloud Platform support. OpenVidu Single Node PRO, Elastic, and High Availability can now all be deployed on GCP using Terraform templates, alongside the existing AWS support.
- LiveKit updated to v1.9.8, pulling in every bug fix and improvement since v1.9.0. One
worth calling out specifically:
unhealthyShutdownWatchdogDelaymoved from 20 seconds to 10 minutes, which stops egress processes from being killed prematurely under high CPU load or poor network conditions — a real fix for anyone who's seen a recording or stream cut off for no obvious reason.
Between ARM and GCP, this release is really about deployment flexibility: more places to run OpenVidu, at a lower cost, without giving up High Availability or the PRO feature set. If egress reliability under load has ever bitten you, the LiveKit update alone is worth the upgrade. The full changelog is in the GitHub release.
